Working Principles

It is used to measure the propagation speed of a pulse of ultrasonic longitudinal stress waves. A pulse of ultrasonic longitudinal stress waves is introduced into surface of a concrete by a transducer coupled to the surface with a coupling gel or grease. The pulse travels through the concrete and is received by a similar transducer coupled on the other surface. The transit time of the pulse is determined by the transit time to obtain the pulse velocity.

Consists of a barrel in which is housed a hammer mass attached to animpact spring which slides on a guide bar. A plunger is attached to theguide bar which is pressed against the surface to be tested. As the pistonis pressed against the surface to be tested, on reaching the compressivestrength, the hammer mass is released and rebounds to a certain extentaccording to the strength of the surface which is indicated by a rider on acalibrated scale. A lock button fixed on the body of the hammer locks therider in place and the rider can be re-cared to zero position by using thesame button. equivalent compressive strength can be computed from thechart supplied. Each hammer is calibrated against at standard testhammer, and is suitable for specimen of compressive strengths 100 –700Kg/cm. The instrument complete with a grinding stone for polishing thetest surface, is supplied in carrying case.

Cronosonic is an instrument for ultrasonic pulse velocity through transparency which can be used to investigate poles, truss, diaphrams, laboratory samples and many other structures made of concrete or stone. It performs measurements with direct, indirect and semi direct method. Very compact instrument is provided with display for realtime visualization of the time of fly (T.O.F.) and velocity of investigated material. Measurements can be transferred to a PC through USB connection. For the visualization of wave form it is possible to interface instrument with external oscilloscope. Ultrasonic pulse velocity survey is a standardized system in diagnostics of concrete.
